James - Old Airport Road Food Centre

OK... another entry about food

This time, we went to Old Airport Road Food Centre after work for dinner. The current spot where the hawkers are located is a temporary place as the actual food centre is under renovation. We noticed the foodstalls here sell similar stuff, e.g many fried hokkien mees, char kway teows, wanton mees and carrot cakes... therefore we had to be EXTRA CAREFUL because one wrong move and we would've ordered from a lousy stall amongst the choices there.

WE did our research b4 hand so we went there prepared! *ok it was Dear who did the work* hee hee

and here's what we ordered...

Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee

Dear ordered this famous Hokkien Mee. It's found at the corner of the food centre, we actually rounded the entire food centre b4 managing to find it! Dear liked it alot, i found it quite unique as well. Quite unlike the usual sort u buy everywhere. It had some crunchy bits of beehoon in it that added to its 'kou gan' heheh

Lau Fu Zi Char Kway Teow

Back when I was a lil boy, i used to own a huge collection of 'Old Master Q' comics, affectionately known as Lau Fu Zi (LFZ) to those who read it.
Some may fondly remember this as the comic book that they read while having a haircut at the neighbourhood barber, whereby you'll giggle at the silly antics of LFZ and the big burly Indian barber would then smack you on the back of your head and holla, STOP MOVING LAR!!!!

aaahh those were the days...haha

alright before i digress any further, we found the serving for this dish a tad bit small but it made up for it with its flavour. It also contained bits of delicious LupChong (chinese sausage) which Dear loves.

After having so much lipsmacking food, we needed something to wash it all down. What better beverage to do the job than a GIGANTIC ice-cold mug of sugarcane juice??

*the pic is supposed to show how big the mug is beside my hand*

Something interesting happened was when I went to the stall to order this, the stall owner looked me at the corner of his eye and asked in a nonchalant way, 'You wan how many Ls??'

I was stunned for a moment, then replied 'Huh? What L? I don't understand!'

He chuckled and explained that L is the Large size that is around 2x the usual size you can get at other places, and LL is the next largest size, and finally the mother of all sugarcane juice, the LLL size!!! which i think will take maybe 4-5 people to finish! I laughed and told him an L sized mug will do *only me and my girl drinking* :)

sidenote: Sad to know that prices for beverages like sugarcane juice had been increased lately. A L sized mug currently costs $2.50 compared to $2 previously.

Anyway we ordered some satays as well but that one really cannot cut it lar, it contained alot of chicken skin which Dear didn't like and the peanut sauce also not nice, eat already also not shuang thus we didn't bother to take its picture.
