Disclaimer: There will be a flurry of pictures and text in this entry (due to my slacking off from this blog) Therefore, you have been warned!
We've been passing by this small lil eatery in Bugis Junction for the longest time. It's the kind of place that probably wouldn't catch your eye (tho I think it has been there for quite a long time) and you would never know that it existed unless you were informed of it by someone.
Anyway, the place is called Tea House or something like that, it's beside Sony Gallery and opposite Giordano if I'm not wrong.
Didn't have much variety of food there. Could only pick from 3 choices. I think they have specials that change everyday. Here's what we ordered.
The Claypot Horfun tasted rather bland, and they used Ipoh Horfun noodles that didn't help to improve anything at all. Disappointing. The only saving grace was .... actually nothing...
The Claypot Rice is quite decent though I can't really agree that it should be called claypot rice. Real claypot rice should be like sizzling, smoky tasting, you have to stir before eating and has bits of burnt rice at the base of the pot...that kind? U should know what I mean. But this version had none of those! I suspect the rice had already been pre-seasoned as the brown-ness of the rice is very uniform (I couldn't see any WHITE RICE!) BUT! Despite saying so much, I feel it tastes quite OK. MUCH MUCH better than the Horfun. At least still have some flavour!
We ordered a pot of Milk Tea, after all it was a Tea House and I have to say, the tea was very fragrant! Not like the usual Milk tea you can get from coffee shops or bubble tea joints. Here's the cute looking pot that held the tea together with the tea cup!
Dear bought Missy Donuts! 2 boxes! One for her family and one for mine! She's such an angel! Thanks dear! Really appreciate it!
She went to the new outlet at Plaza Singapure B2 to queue for them while waiting for me to finish class. The queues are still quite reasonable, waiting time also wasn't as long as Donut Factory. Quality of donuts not bad. Funny thing was the box stated 'Crispy Donuts' ......DON'T have LAR! Not crispy at all lor!
I tried their glazed donut, strangely after trying out the Krispy Kreme Glazed Donut (which coincidentally I got them from Dear as well) It set a high benchmark of how a glazed donut should taste like. And the odd thing was, the glaze (the sugary coating) on Missy Donut was wet instead of dry! It literally dripped off my fingers! First time tasting a wet glazed donut. The texture of the donuts were commendable though! Soft and fluffy!
One time, we were walking around a supermarket and suddenly Dear's baking instincts kicked in! So we grabbed a box of brownie mix and went home to bake! Pretty straight forward, just followed the instructions on the box and voila! Freshly baked brownies! They tasted awesome! We're gonna try cookies or cakes next! Thank God for premixed baking goods for non baking people like us! haha!
REally good! Nice warm and fudgy brownies! Just the way we like it!
After Dear's lesson on Tuesday nights, we usually go for dinner before I send her home. Had a chance to try the much raved about Botak Jones at Clementi which is very near her school. For locations and more information go to http://www.botakjones.com/
Have to add that the food here is really well prepared and satisfying. Came in large portions too! We came here on an empty until cannot empty stomach, and we left the place stuffed! You have to wait at least 30minutes for your food. While waiting we took a shot of this cute-looking mustard bottle. Looks like a grenade!
The Botak Burger! The beef patty is super thick and juicy man! This is the way a REAL burger should taste!
DAMN GOOD LAR <--- Botak Jone's slogan
The Cajun Chicken that Dear had! The fries are like.... no need money one... they literally gave a MOUNTAIN of fries sprinkled with spices. Dear commented that the Chicken was rather tough, not tender enough... but the meat was well seasoned with cajun spices. A little spicy and filled with lots of flavor! That's it for now! More to come soon!
