James - eat and eat and eat PART 1

After service one Sunday, we went for lunch with June at Marina Square. As we didn't know what to have, so she reccommended this place to us.

Jia Xiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee
Marina Square
#02-220A
She tried it with Kai Shian before and swore by the noodle's unique texture. So we tried it and boy was the noodles nice! Very springy and has the "QQ" factor! tee hee hee. The other ingredients like the minced meat, char siew, veggies, wantons, prawns were unexceptional and I felt it didn't really justify the price of $6. It's really an absurd price to pay for a bowl of noodles with such low cost ingredients which you may get in East Malaysia at 20% of this price? ... Imagine this scenario...

A hungry Sarawak native was in town to visit some relatives, decided to drop by Marina Square for some food, he sees the outlet selling Kolo Mee and feels a sense of pride that his hometown delicacy is available even in Singapore ... beaming proudly and feeling damn awesome he glanced at the price list.. his jaw drops to the floor with a loud CLUNK! SGD$6.00?!(RM$13.80)?! FOR A BOWL OF KO-LO NOO-DLES?!?!? Back home at his neighbourhood coffeeshop that he patronised since he was a kid, this same bowl of noodles by his familiar hawker Ahpek costs only RM$2.20!!!! The Singapore version got gold inside ah??? MADNESS!!

P.S I've never been to Sarawak, so went to google and based the RM$2.20 figure on an entry on kennysia's blog. Here's the link
An interesting quote from him
"It's odd that for a restaurant serving Sarawakian food, the interior is furnished with ancient Chinese furniture. Most of the staff they employed are from mainland China (as evident from their distinctive accent) and they're even dressed up in traditional Chinese restaurant workers outfit."
On the way out of Marina Square, happened to see this. It was a miniature battleground for remote controlled tanks! The tanks were really cool with the sounds and lights. Took a short vid of it.
